Gmail search can help you find and join Spaces.

A new Gmail upgrade may make it much easier to find an important message or a group chat. Google Workspace is receiving a new feature that will allow users to identify and join group conversations called Spaces using the Gmail online search tool. Users may find a space by typing a query into the Gmail search box and pressing enter. Along with the current search result fields for mail and messages, a new option for showing related Spaces will now be available.

Google notes that the results will include not just Spaces you’ve previously joined, but also discoverable and restricted Spaces to which you’ve been invited but have yet to join. Users will also be able to see the contents of a Space before deciding whether or not to join by clicking on the “Preview” button next to each unjoined space, with a separate “Join” option allowing you to make your big entrance.

The service is currently being sent out to all Google Workspace users, as well as old G Suite Basic and Business customers, and those with personal Google Accounts. The announcement came just days after Google revealed that Gmail searches will soon be smarter.  As Google is using new machine learning models that should be able to deliver more contextual suggestions with intent matching, as well as tailored results based on prior behavior. In order to “improve communication and collaboration for teams of all sizes,” Google just announced that up to 8,000 individuals may now be added to a Google Chat room, a significant increase from the current maximum of 400.

Google Workspace stated that as the number of spaces within organizations is growing, so company is offering a better way for users to discover and find the exact space they’re looking for. As well as a path to join spaces for specific teams, projects, shared interests, and more. Google is making user-friendly improvements to its flagship products, just like Microsoft. It’s about time that Google realized that usability is most important in any product!
